Officers are leadership roles at KAPS. Officers have at least a 1 year commitment, but are encouraged to serve 2-3 year terms. Officers must attend biweekly meetings on Wednesday evenings. Officers lead the direction of the organization, and address any organizational issues. It is the officers’ job to ensure that there are enough planned events and that the organization is thriving.
Officer positions:
You can be a photographer or greeter for a single event, and there are no additional expectations beyond that.
Photographer Take photos at our events, including the Kappy Hours and our flagship events. You do not need to pay for certain events such as the Bonfire ($40 value). And an officer will buy you a drink at every Kappy Hour where you take photos.
Kappy Hour greeter You should think of yourself as the host of the Kappy Hour. You will introduce yourself to everyone at the Kappy Hour. You will get to know their backgrounds and stories. And you will help to connect people with others that they might want to get to know. It helps to be good with names and faces. It helps to be outgoing.
Kappy Hour planner
Schedule the Kappy Hour, find a venue, and negotiate happy hour deals. We also want to start charging tickets for Kappy Hours, so you’ll set that up. You’ll create marketing graphics (from templates), and send it to the marketing committee. Estimate that each event takes 2 hours to plan total.

Small group social event planner
Plan dinners, party nights, norebang, etc. You’ll be the center of the event! The ideas are endless. To make it easy, we expect these events to be small groups (maybe less than 10 people). You’ll setup the ticketing, create marketing graphics, and send it to the marketing committee.

Facebook account manager You will be given access to the “KAPS Organizers” account. Your goal is to increase the “KAPS Newbies & Active Members Only” group and increase engagement. Create FB events (for events from planners) and promote events. In this role, you are the face and voice of KAPS. You will directly message KAPS members and get to know them personally. Somehow you need to coordinate with the Instagram manager so that members aren’t being bombarded with direct messages from both platforms. Your face will be on the account profile photo.
Meetup.com manager You will be given access to the “KAPS Organizers” account. Your goal is to increase the KAPS group and increase engagement. Create Meetup.com events (for events from planners) and promote events. Engage users directly and get to know them personally. Your face will be on the account profile photo.
Instagram account manager
You will be given access to the @kaps_org Instagram account. Your goal is to increase followers and increase engagement. You will post fun stories at least several times a week from your own personal life but make it relevant to the KAPS audience. You will also promote each event. In this role, you are the face and voice of KAPS. You will directly message KAPS members and get to know them personally. Your face will be on the account profile photo.

TikTok account manager This role is similar to the Instagram manager role. There are differences, however. The TikTok account is new and has no followers. Also, we would like to do fun TikTok videos with KAPS members. Ideas include dancing, funny skits, etc.
LinkedIn account manager You will be given access to the @kapsorg LinkedIn account. Your goal is the increase connections and increase membership in the KAPS group. In this role, you are the face and voice of KAPS. You will directly message KAPS members and get to know them personally. Your face will be on the account profile photo. You should create lists of members in similar professions so that we can create professional development events for those groups.
Professional development event planner
Plan fireside chats, talks, learning opportunities, and small group discussion related to professional development. Work with the LinkedIn account manager to generate event ideas and reach out to professionals who can help.

Plan a group volunteer event such as cleaning up the beach, or helping seniors, or planing a garden, or working a soup kitchen, etc.

Plan Korean language learning opportunities, or cultural talks, or arts events, or group trips. There is no minimum commitment. You can plan just one event.

Mental health small group leader
Get a small group together to discuss mental health. This is NOT a therapy session. It can be virtual or in-person. You can do meditation exercises. You can play discussion games like “Where do we begin” by Esther Perel.

These roles vary in commitment, and is flexible.
Website designer The website needs design updates time-to-time. You will iterate on the design as needed. This is at least a 1 year role, if not more. The work is only periodic.
Website developer The kaps.org website is built on Github pages using Jekyll. It is a simple, blog-aware, static site. It uses kramdown (a markdown variant), with Liquid templating, YAML data files, HTML, JS, and CSS. A new or aspiring developer can learn how to improve or maintain the website. You will work with the designer to revamp the website.
Software engineer Eddy Jin, one of our officers and a Google engineer, will be leading a various interesting software projects. This is a good opportunity for a new or aspiring developer to be mentored by a seasoned engineer. One project is to streamline the marketing workflow from event creation to multi-channel publishing.
The advisory board helps to guide the organization’s mission, strategy, and impact. The minimum commitment is 3 years. There are board meetings twice a year. Advisors are encouraged to use their networks and resources to help elevate KAPS. Current Advisory Board members are previous KAPS presidents.
